Project Gone Wrong Made Right Again by SPF Professionals

    Before and After Project Photos

SPF project gone wrong makes local news in Canada. Poor performance impacts the industry as a whole. Inexperience is usually to blame for less than professional results. Professional SPF companies, in Canada, volunteered their time, tools, equipment and products, as they worked together to make this project right again.

Luke Egley, President of Canadian International Envelope Consultants, Inc., was upset, at first, by spray foam projects, in Canada, that were applied unprofessionally. Some applications were so bad that they warranted replacement. Instead of getting angry, Luke used his energy to spring into action to organize a professional team to remediate SPF projects gone wrong. Generally, problems with SPF projects are a result of inexperience. Projects gone wrong often result in tarnishing the integrity of the industry. Every professional SPF company agrees that maintaining the integrity of the industry is vitally important. Gaining public trust for spray foam projects can be an on-going struggle for many professional SPF companies because jobs that go wrong tend to gain more public attention than the jobs that go right.

      The tear out

What Went Wrong?

“An uncertified contractor used uncertified spray foam products in this family’s newly constructed shop. Many of us have seen the footage and images of the damage caused by these unscrupulous individuals. I was approached by Adam Luffman, at Urethane Foam Consultants, and asked to help manage the remediation of this spray job gone wrong,” explained Luke.

What Went Right?

“There are moments in time when a community comes together to remedy a problem that affects our community. These acts of kindness cannot be measured in dollars and cents. This was one of those moments. There are always people in this world that embody the worst attributes of humanity. However, they will never overcome those individuals in our society that believe in kindness, family, community, and friendship,” stated Luke.

Special Thanks to Those who Made this Project Possible:

Luke wishes to publicly thank the army or people who came together to make this remediation project possible:

Michael Marlow: Provide Pirahna scarfing tools which have made the job so much easier. Mike has fed the crews and put on his coveralls and PPE to help clean up the mess.

Bill Bilben: Join the group to lend his experience and expertise.

Ben Porter of Polysource:  Ben has been on the tools, side by side with contractors the entire time. His great attitude has really helped keep the atmosphere positive and the project moving forward. Polysouce is also donating the chemical to respray the site. We appreciate your help and support.

Larry McLinden with Genyk Foam: Volunteered to help support this project in one of the most important aspects of the SPF process. They donated all the DC315 we need to provide a thermal barrier fire protection. Thank you Genyk we appreciate your support.

Wade Hannon of Graco: Supplied media blasting equipment and expertise to help make this remediation successful. Wade was on site ensuring we get this done properly. Thank you Graco and thank you Wade.

Elastochem Specialty Chemicals: Special thanks to this company for allowing me to lend my knowledge and expertise to this project.

Kudos to Luke Egely and his volunteers for organizing this Dream Team of SPF professionals that gave of themselves, working hard together, to make this job right again. This article gives us one of those feel good moments that helps restore our faith in humanity, especially during these uncertain times around the world. Hopefully, this article inspires others and reinforces the strong brotherhood that is alive and well in the SPF industry.
