Helping Train our Applicators

The High-Performance Insulation Professionals (HPIP) organization is providing spray foam insulation training to our industry. You should consider becoming a member. We all know good sprayers are hard to find and we need more of them, but how do we find the really good ones–the fully qualified and capable ones?  HPIP’s mission is to “…better the insulation industry and seek to serve building performance professionals by providing a trained workforce through educational and recruitment tools and events.”  At a recent HPIP job fair in Kansas City, I participated in the 2 days of general exposure to various insulation materials and delivered the spray foam opportunity in a 2-hour presentation.  The audience was mostly graduating students from the technical college (hosting the event) and local insulation contractors seeking employment candidates.  During the event, contractors conducted interviews with potential employees, and product manufacturers demonstrated their product on actual jobsite – set up by HPIP.  The students/candidates, after completing their in-class training, are then instructed and graded on their ability to install the various insulation materials – in front of the potential employer.  It’s a great way to see if a candidate has what it takes to be a spray foam applicator.  As you know, spraying foam is half art and half science.  Some have the “rhythm” to spray, some don’t.  The HPIP organization is currently updating and upgrading its SPF training and certification platform and taking it on the road in 2022.  I know I’ll be helping HPIP where and however I can, and I encourage you to check them out and consider them a resource for your next hire.
