At the age of 13, Benny’s father put a blast nozzle in his hand. From that moment on Benny was hooked. “…I try to learn something new every day because the industry is constantly changing. If you stop learning, you’ve basically affected your entire career.” Benny enjoys teaching as much as learning and wants to help people become the best.
Benny Abbott, aka “Benjy”, is the Education and Field Technical Director for Specialty Products, Inc. (SPI). Benny had 20 years in industrial coatings before joining SPI. His articles have been published in Coatings Pro Magazine, and he has appeared in a NACE YouTube video in which he was interviewed about his extensive background and industry knowledge.

Benny has worked on various projects that include water tanks, bridges, steel mills, process mills, petroleum tanks, pipe line systems, structural steel, infrastructure, aerospace, nuclear interim barriers and more. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level III with the Nuclear Coatings Inspection Endorsement and a supporting member of NACE, SSPC and the PDA. Despite his many years in the industry, and an array of expert credentials, Benny remains a humble person who is eager to help others. The industry is fortunate to have someone like Benny.
