MAG Insulation has organized themselves to achieve maximum efficiency in everything they do. Located in Auburn, Michigan, MAG Insulation’s team has systematically analyzed the most strategic way to maximize their company efficiently and provide their customers with highest level of performance. Reducing down-time is a key element that has catapulted this company to success.

It’s All About Understanding Efficiency

Dan Murphy, President of MAG Insulation, began his career in the construction industry. Since launching his insulation business ten years ago, the company has grown by leaps and bounds—from one spray rig to 8 rigs spray rigs and counting! Dan understands that efficiency is paramount to success, so he has honed his company’s team to think strategically, plan for contingencies and meet every deadline. A primary focus for Dan and Luke is to reduce or eliminate down-time. Having equipment that is dependable has made a big difference for the company’s success. MAG Insulation’s commercial and residential projects have included universities, colleges, corporate buildings, schools, condominiums, resorts, restaurants, water treatment plants, theme parks and homes.

“You’re Only as Strong as Your Weakest Link” says Luke

Luke Colthrop, the company’s shop manager and tech person, explains, “Every year the company has gotten bigger and better. Customers notice how professional we are. We show up when we say we will, and we meet our deadlines because we have little to no down-time. We’re able to accomplish this by having dependable equipment that doesn’t break down. We started out with another name brand, but it just didn’t perform well."

"Time is money. When you have to repeatedly stop to make repairs, it puts your projects and reputation in jeopardy. Since using the PH-2, our down-time has been virtually eliminated. We have three PH-2 proportioners so far, and they’ve never let us down. Our goal is to replace all our other machines with PH-2 proportioners. You’re only as strong as your weakest link, so we look for and eliminate the weak links. We’ve found that complicated machines tend to have more opportunities for things can go wrong. The PH-2 is streamlined, rugged and does exactly what we need it to do. We have been purchasing our PMC equipment from MCC, in Indiana. They can get my repair parts for just about anything I need quickly, and their tech support is phenomenal. Those guys really know their stuff!”

Words of Advice

Luke’s advice to start up companies is to get training. “Proper training can save a company thousands of dollars. Thinking ahead and budgeting for future needs is vital for a company’s growth. Having equipment that performs when you need it to and understanding how to service that equipment can make the difference between success and failure. We plan to attend PMC’s next training course because we know that knowledge is going to save us money too."
